Pink eye, revisited

So Christopher managed to get pink eye AGAIN! I had to take him to the dr on Monday to have him checked out and make sure it was indeed pink eye. It was. That meant I had the pleasure of cleaning/disinfecting the entire house again. I spent all day yesterday cleaning ALL of Christopher's toys and every single door knob, light switch, etc in the whole house. It sure was fun. I'm hoping this time I got rid of it and he won't get it again. Ugh! The upside is that Christopher is getting really good at letting us do his eye drops...no fussing or fighting us on it at all. That helps. :)

Just some random pics from this week

Here are a couple pictures of Matt and Christopher....One picture is before Matt left for work that morning and the other picture is right when he got home.

Here is a picture of me with Jessica and one of me with Christopher.

Here is Christopher playing with Toby. The two of them are good friends!

Christopher insisted that I take a picture of his moose. You can see Cassie in the background. She and Christopher are not very good friends, except when she thinks she can get some food from him.

This is what happens when you try to put Jessica down when she is in one of her cuddly moods (which is most of the time).
She is NOT happy, as you can see.

Here is Christopher helping himself to a snack from the pantry.

Just a random picture Christopher asked me to take. He has been into taking pictures the past week or so. Who knows why.

This is Jessica right before we headed to the pharmacy to get her new antibiotic. I think she was happy to be getting a different medicine since the first one made her throw up everywhere.

More fun with doctors

As if I didn't feel guilty enough about sending Jessica to daycare when she is so young, she spent 3 mornings there last week and now has ear infections in both ears. She woke up early Saturday morning with a fever. I called the pediatrician and spoke to the on-call dr. He said to bring her in. He checked her out and discovered she had ear infections. She ended up having a bad reaction to the first antibiotic he prescribed (she would throw up immediately after we gave it to her, kind of defeats the whole purpose of giving it to her). I spoke to her regular pediatrician yesterday morning and he called in a prescription for a different antibiotic. She seems to be tolerating this one well and is definitely feeling better. She should be able to go back to daycare tomorrow (Wednesday).

Our fun trip to the doctor yesterday

We had to head to the doctor yesterday afternoon because I was pretty sure that Christopher had pink eye. As I was putting his shoes on to leave, he says to me, "I am NOT kissing a frog! No way!" He wouldn't elaborate further and I'm not really sure where this came from. Matt later told me that it's probably related to an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I'm not really sure what made Christopher think of it at that particular moment, though. Random.

So, we got in the car and headed to the doctor's office. I had just spoken to Jessica's pediatrician this past Tuesday about having Christopher's records transferred over to him. Christopher had been seeing a family physician, but I thought it was easier to have both kids see the same dr and we have been really impressed with Jessica's dr. So, this would be Christopher's first visit to see this pediatrician. The dr's office is up at the hospital where Jessica was born. We were almost there when Christopher said, "Mommy, you went the wrong way! I think we're lost!!" I explained that we weren't lost, we were just going to a different doctor. He seemed satisfied with that explanation. :)

Oh, and he does indeed have pink eye and now I feel like the whole house is contaminated. We have been hand-washing like crazy around here in hopes that the rest of us don't get it. Yuck! I also have the fun task of sanitizing all of Christopher's toys, including all his hot wheels cars. Those of you who have been to our house know that Christopher has MANY, MANY cars. It is going to take me FOREVER!

Jessica's 8 wk check-up update

Jessica had her 8 week check-up with the dr today. She is doing great! She now weighs 14 lbs, 2 oz. (the 97th percentile) and is 23 1/2 inches long (the 95th percentile). She's my BIG girl! She isn't quite as long as Christopher was at 2 months (he was 24 inches long), but she weighs more (he was 12 lbs, 6 oz at 2 months). I love her chubby cheeks!

The dr checked her collar bone today. He said it feels like it's stable now and he is sure there is no need to keep is pinned. He wanted to make sure that it has aligned properly and that it won't cause her any problems in the future, so he had us get an x-ray this morning. The person doing the x-ray said that the radiologist would look at the films and then send a report to Jessica's dr (most likely by tomorrow). I'm guessing we will get the results tomorrow or later this week. Jessica did NOT like having the x-ray done because I had to hold her down so she would be still. She was super angry by the time we left. [Update: The dr called this afternoon after I posted this to tell us that the x-ray looked good and it looks like her collar bone healed just like is should have. She's totally ok now.]

The person who scheduled today's appointment when I called a couple weeks ago did not tell me that Jessica had to be officially 2 months old before getting her first round of vaccinations. She won't officially be 2 months old until Sept 16th, so we have to go back to the dr next week so she can get her shots. Although I was glad to have Jessica's collar bone checked out today, I was annoyed that they didn't tell me about the shots thing and that we have to make a second trip to the dr next week. So, she will get her shots on Monday the 17th. I'm not looking forward to that. It's going to be hard seeing her cry when they give her the shots. With Christopher, I almost cried right along with him.

Here are a couple pictures of her sleeping in her carseat right after we got back from the dr.

Here she is stretching out on her blanket this afternoon. I think she really loves that her arm isn't pinned anymore and she can move it however she wants.

Christopher let me take pictures today

Normally, Christopher runs in the other direction yelling "No!! Don't take my picture!!" when I try to take pictures of him. Today he decided he was in a picture-taking mood.

Here he is watching his new favorite TV show "Scooby Doo"

Here he is just being cute. :)

He's saying "Cheese!" in this one.....

Some recent conversations with Christopher....

He was watching me set up my breastpump the other day. He asked what I was doing and I told him I was getting ready to pump some milk for Jessica. He said, "That sounds great! That's nice!".

The other day I was holding Jessica and she had a dirty diaper. (Anyone who has been around breastfed babies knows that it's pretty obvious when this event occurs because of the noise.) Christopher said "what was that noise?" I explained that Jessica had a dirty diaper. He then commented, "Oh...that's not so nice."

Today after he finished drinking some milk he set his cup down and said, "Ahhhh. Delicious!" It was really cute because his L's sound more like W's, so 'delicious' sounded more like 'dewicious'.

Free at last!

We finally unpinned Jessica's right arm now that she is 8 weeks old (she is 8 weeks old today). He collar bone was supposed to take 6-8 weeks to heal. The dr will check it out tomorrow to make sure it's totally healed, but we're pretty sure it is. It doesn't seem to cause her any pain or bother her at all. She seemed somewhat confused when we unpinned it....suddenly she could move her arm all the way up. She held it up in the air for a bit right after I unpinned it. It was funny. Now she moves it all around like nothing ever happened. I took these pictures today.

Kim and Jessica

Jessica is 7 weeks old in these pictures.

It's a bird...it's a plane...No, it's....

SUPER BABY!!!

More pics of Christopher and Jessica

Lately, Christopher has been camera shy and he really doesn't like us taking pictures of him. One of the ways we can convince him to let us take pictures is to let him hold Jessica and take pictures of both of them. Jessica is 6 weeks old in these pictures.

He really loves holding her. He continues to enjoy being a big brother. It's adorable watching him with her.

Oh and as you can also see, Christopher enjoys hanging out around the house in just a diaper.

All smiles

Jessica really likes to smile. She especially likes to smile at the ceiling fans. She's a pretty happy baby most of the time and it's so fun just sitting and watching her.

She is 5 weeks old in these pictures...

She is almost 7 weeks old in this picture....

This is why we now have a broken keyboard....

Ok, so Christopher really likes to type on the computer. Matt was letting him type one day and decided to take some pictures. Christopher has played like this a few times since these pictures were taken.

We discovered last week that our keyboard is now broken. You can't get most of the letters on the top row to work with the shift key. If you hit shift and the letter, nothing appears. So, you'll be typing away and realize that several of the words you just typed (usually at the beginning of sentences) are missing the first letter. It's REALLY annoying. We realized, however, that if you hit 'caps lock' then you can get capital letters. Strange. Looks like we will be getting a new keyboard soon.

Note to self: Do not let toddlers play on the computer.

Big brothers are great!

Christopher LOVES being a big brother. He loves holding Jessica and kissing her. He thinks it's neat that he will get to help teach her how to walk and talk. We took these pictures when Jessica was about 3 weeks old. Christopher is about 2 1/2 yrs old (he'll be 3 yrs old on Oct. 30th).

Our beautiful little girl (2 weeks old)

Here are a couple pictures of our beautiful little girl. She is about 2 weeks old in these pictures. As you can see, she has a dimple in one cheek. It's adorable!

The little bow in her hair was a gift from her Aunt Meghan. :)

Jessica's first few days

So the first few days with Jessica were filled with quite a bit of drama....

The first bit of drama...We found out several hours after Jessica was born that she broke her collar bone during delivery. She had been so mellow that we didn't even realize anything was wrong. When the pediatrician checked her out for the first time (she saw the pediatrician who was on call), he specifically checked her collar bone since she was such a big baby. Luckily, the dr said collar bones heal really well and he said it should be ok in 6-8 weeks. All we have to do is pin her sleeve across her chest so she can't move her arm up and down too much. Here are a couple of pictures of us that first day in the hospital, not long after Christopher met her for the first time:

The next day in the hospital, we had more drama. Jessica spit up, then choked and starting turning blue. It was totally scary!! We called the nurse and she rushed her down to the nursery. Matt went with her. Jessica was breathing again by the time they got down there. The dr decided to keep her in the NICU for several hours to monitor her and make sure she was ok. She was totally fine after that. (We were very impressed with the pediatrician who had been seeing her, so we decided to have him be her dr. He is an awesome pediatrician!) Now, at this point, the nurses were all joking that I gave birth to a total drama queen. Since we were both doing great by Tues evening, the doctors (my dr and Jessica's dr) said we would get to go home the next day (Wed July 18th). Going home Wednesday was not in the cards for us, though....

This brings us to last bit of drama. I woke up Wed morning with a HORRIBLE rash on my butt. I apparently had some sort of allergic reaction to the pads they had me sitting on during labor (either that or it was the post-partum pads used after I had her or both, we're not really sure). I was itching so badly that I couldn't stand it! Pain I can handle, itching I can not. They paged my dr to come take a look. She prescribed some meds and a cream and decided she wanted to keep me over night to make sure that the meds were getting the rash under control. Luckily, the meds were working and I was feeling more comfortable the next day (the rash actually ended up taking a full 2 weeks to go away after it spread to my back and arms after I got home). Now all the nurses were joking that Jessica was a drama queen and now they could see where she got it--from me! Anyway, we got to go home on Thursday morning (July 19th, my original due date).

Matt took the following picture not long after we got home. He just thought it looked so funny with everyone sitting there taking pictures of Jessica.

The rest of these pictures were taken her first couple days at home (so she is not even a week old yet in the pictures). We are all amazed at how much hair she has. Christopher had hair, but not nearly this much hair!
